3d laser crystal etching machine

Getting an amazing 3d laser crystal engraving can be a beautiful thing. You are going to have to make sure you find the right person who can do the 3d laser crystal engraving for you. The best way to get a great 3d laser crystal engraving done is with the right 3d laser crystal machine.

I’m going to talk about the best engraving machines for your crystal as well as some other info that will be handy for you.

Top 3d laser crystal engraving machine

Epilog – Epilog is made in the USA and has a solid line up of 3d crystal laser engraving machines that you can choose from. I rate these guys highly. Their machines can engrave and cut almost any material.

I couldn’t name a single machine that is best for you, as I always recommend checking the selection and then going from there to decide what is best for you. They also have a pre-owned section that you can check just in case a good laser engraving machine comes up.

3dlasermachine – has some good machines available (as well as a very old school website). These guys are based in the U.S. and also worth checking out for a good price comparison.

Leaguelaser – These guys are based in China and have a good range of sub-surface cnc 3d laser engraving machines for crystal and glass. Always worth a try to get in touch and see how much the machines are and how much shipping will be.

Getting a great 3d laser etched crystal

3d laser crystal engraving

Getting an etched laser 3d crystal as a gift is an awesome idea and has that personal factor involved as well. Below are some steps that I would recommend you reading to help you get the best engraving possible.

1. Communicate clearly what you want. You could bring a picture in of something or have a handy sketch ready to show. Words can sometimes be hard to define a picture, so having the actual picture helps a lot.

2. Set your boundaries. Things such as scale, size, shape and even resolution are important things.

3. Make sure to see samples of their previous work and see just what your engraving will come on, for example, ask to see a sample size of the crystal that will be 3d laser engraved.

4. If you need a custom 3d laser crystal engraving, then you may have to allow for a certain amount of time. Lead times (how long you will have to wait) can take a while if there is a backorder of projects. Also, the project may take longer as it is a custom project.

5. Make sure you have a finish time and something to match the finish with at the end. A lot of engravers sometimes deliver different results to what they have said. With laser engraving, the engraving should be pretty precise, but you never know, so it pays to make sure the engraver has an exact example of what they will be able to deliver.

3d laser crystal photo

Getting a 3d laser photo crystal is also a great personalised present. Use the tips above and bring in a photo for the etching. You could also have your face encased for a loved one, so they will never miss you (bad joke, I know).

Of course, as said above, check out what the engraver has and make sure he or she can show you some examples of previous 3d laser crystal etching they have done in the past. I wish you all the best 3d laser engraved crystal gift for your occasion.

3d laser crystal gifts

I have done a bit of hunting around and these are the best crystal laser 3d gifts out there. There are some cool designs at some very reasonable price. Check them out below:

laser cutting tempered glass

So you are looking at getting laser glass cutting done with a machine? Well laser glass cutting with the right machine is actually pretty easy.

Below I will take a look at some useful tips to look for when trying to find a good laser glass cutter and also help you out by identifying what the best laser glass cutting machine is.

Best brands of laser glass cutting machines (in no particular order)

Epilog Laser – I have mentioned these guys before. Epilog has a solid line up of different machines for Co2 laser glass cutting as well as glass laser cutting for many different sizes. They have a great comparison chart on their website.

There are 3 different series, the starter, legend elite and the FiberMark industrial series. They have Fiber as well as Co2 lasers for their different types of laser cutting machines.

Sizes range from 16″ x 12″ to 36″ x 24″ and come with features such as drop down doors and high speed servo motors. Their share range and options make them a definite place worth checking out.

Trotec laser – Trotec is also a solid brand. They have 3 specific laser cutting machines that are definitely worth a look, the Speedy 100, 300 and 500.  They range from a work area of 24″ x 12″ to 49″ x 28″. The laser cutter speedy 500 even has a cool little animation to watch if you want to see it in virtual glory.

Universal Laser Systems – These guys have a very impressive and solid range. They have 12 laser glass cutters, from desktop to free-standing, they have a very good range. One of their machines even comes with multi-wavelength which sounds pretty cool. Sizes for Universal’s machines range from 16″ x 12″ to 48″ x 24″.

RMI Laser – Made and supported in USA, these guys also have some good laser machines, the only downside is that they are laser marking machines, not cutting. So they are a lot smaller and will not be able to cut large panes of glass.

Laser Cutting Tempered Glass

laser cutting glass

The only way you will be able to cut tempered glass is with a cnc laser cutting glass machine. If you try yourself without a laser, you will have to de-stress the glass, a process called annealing. This means you will need a craft oven and you will have to heat up the glass to 900 degrees F.

To avoid doing the above, you will need a solid laser machine to do the job. If you can not get a machine, another thing you can do is outsource the task. So you can outsource the work to a cnc operator who operates a laser cutting machine that can cut glass. Check out the manufacturers above that I have recommended to make sure you get something that will do the job properly.

Outsourcing may be the way to go as it is a lot cheaper than buying a laser machine up front. Also, you are always limited by size depending on the kind of machine that you have. So outsourcing may be even more of an option if you don’t have the budget or space for a machine that will do all your tasks. Below is my guide on successful outsourcing:

Outsourcing your glass cutting with laser technology

Yes, outsourcing your work can be a daunting process, especially the first time. This can be true especially for glass. It is super fragile and expensive, so transporting it is also a factor too. Below are some helpful hints to get you outsourcing your glass laser cutting efficiently.

First of all, always make sure you call around and get some quotes with different people. Each place will have different laser glass cutting machines, so will vary on price, as each machine and the software that goes with it will vary a lot in price, so that cost is offset to the consumer usually.

Take a look at previous examples of work and possibly ask about different clients they have had in the past. Always ask to see some examples by saying you want to see the finish on a product. Check to see how smooth the cut is without any polishing done to it.

Specify exactly what you want and the price. Laser cutting of glass is expensive and will cost a fair bit, so do not expect a really low price. Go with something reasonable knowing that the finish is very important.

Look at different cutting/etching options. Some machines may cost a lot more, but provide a better finish. If you do not need accuracy or specific finish, then you may be able to get away with outsourcing to a cnc operator with a cheaper glass laser cutting machine or laser etching machine. Ask to see what laser they have, I recommend a Co2 laser glass cutting machine over other lasers.

Buying a used glass cutting machine

Going used is a good option, but in this niche can be very hard. It may be a lot easier to get other cnc routers, but laser glass cutting machines are very hard to come by. This is because the technology is rather new, so older machines get outdated easily. I have seen some machine auction sites that we have discussed in previous articles that may be worth a look.

Good luck on finding the best glass cutting laser machine!

horizontal milling machine

Are you looking for the best horizontal milling machine? Well look no further, as this article will review and look at the best horizontal milling machine for your milling purposes.

First of all, what is a horizontal milling machine?

There are some big differences between a horizontal and a vertical mill. Well a horizontal mill does still have a bed which has the x-y table. But the cutters are mounted onto a horizontal arbor. You can mount more than one cutter at a time to produce more results, faster. A single spindle machine is called a simplex, while a two spindle machine are called duplex mills.

Best horizontal milling machine for sale (in no particular order)

horizontal milling machine cutters

Well this really all depends on your project needs. I can help you out in terms of what manufacturers to look at. From there, you should be able to find a machine that best suits your machining purposes. Here are the top horizontal milling machine manufacturers:

Sheldons – Solid mills that have a good following due to its quality and ruggedness. Definitely worth checking out if you can find one in great condition.

Burke – Burke mills are old school and are definitely worth a look if you can get your hands on one. They have a few different numbers for their model numbers, for example, the machine may be called a #3 or a #4. There is also good support online through other enthusiasts that also own this machine.

Rockwell – Head on over to the Rockwell Yahoo Group files section (Yahoo Rockwell mill forum right here) for more information on Rockwell horizontal mills.

Brown & Sharp – Also worth a look at, although doesn’t seem like there is a huge community of users online for this manufacturer.

Atlas – Best place to check out for an Atlas horizontal milling machine might be Ebay for this manufacturer. Head on over to their Yahoo group here for more tips and info from other users.

Bridgeport – They have a great website and with a lot of modern machines that you can get new easily. Their horizontal mill is rather large, and offer a 4 axis model range for their horizontal milling machine cutters. Definitely worth a look depending if you need something of that size for a cnc horizontal milling machine.

Cincinnati – These guys are also really old school, founded in 1889. A good Cincinnati horizontal milling machine is a good choice for those who are looking for a good used machine.

Universal – A good Universal horizontal milling machine is definitely worth its weight in gold. There are a ton of different mills from this manufacturer, so check them out if you are looking for variety.

Best small horizontal milling machine

horizontal vertical milling machine

That title would probably best go to the Van Norman 12. This is a solid machine and can do both horizontal and vertical milling. The Nichols horizontal milling machine is also a good option and is even smaller than the Van Norman, so would be a good option for a small horizontal milling machine.

Tips for buying a used horizontal milling machine

Going used is a great option to save on cash. Of course, there are a few things you should be on the look out for:

1. A trusted seller. Look for a well trusted seller and always try to go through your credit card, as you can do a charge back if something were to go wrong (i.e. your mill never arrives).

2. Make sure to get the model number. That way you can look it up and see what parts you may need. Head on over to the Practical Machinist or forum to see if someone there may have a similar machine. Usually there is and they can point you in the right direction for additional horizontal milling machine parts.

3. Make sure it can be used by you easily. If it is cnc, then you may need to get additional training, which is hard for horizontal milling machine operations that require older software.

4. Shipping and transport costs to get it a machine and horizontal milling machine parts can be a bit of a mission. Because of this, you will have to look local, unless you can get cheap shipping. Also watch out for extra fees like customs fees if importing.

5. Make sure you have the space. A lot of these machines are not mini, so will take up a good sized footprint within your workshop.

dog tag engraving

Looking to get a dog tag engraving done? Well dog tag engraving is best done with a dog tag engraving machine. Using a machine improves accuracy and lets you see what you will get before engraving.

Below is my guide for getting the best dog tag necklace engraving including where to find the best dog tag engraving machines for the job.

How to get the best dog tag engraving for men and women

1. First up, you will need to plan what you are going to have engraved. This could be an image or some writing.

2. You will need to find a reputable engraver. Make sure she or he has a cnc dog tag engraving machine.

A cnc machine means it is controlled by a computer, which means you should be able to see the design before it gets engraved, and it also means you will get an accurate engraving when it gets put onto your dog tag.

A cnc machine will be able to do a dog tag picture engraving as well as engrave regular words.

3. Make sure you see examples of previous work to see what you will be getting. If the font or engraving depth is different, make sure you see an example of this first. Great engravers will have plenty of examples to show you.

4. Popular engravers normally have a bit of a wait, because they have orders backed up. Make sure you get in early to avoid long waits.

dog tag necklace engraving

5. Specify a pick up time and date. Agree upon something that is doable and at a time that will not get delayed. Also have the price resolved at the beginning. That way there will be no arguments or misunderstandings on the due date/time as well as the payment.

6. Sometimes engravers run late on deadlines or ask for more money. Make sure they can do the job properly and on time for the price agreed on or go elsewhere.

The best dog tag engraving machines

I’m going to recommend a few good brands, and you can drill down to see what machine best suits your purposes. Remember that every machine is different.

Trotec – These guys have a good range of laser Co2 laser engravers that will do a great job. They are based in North America too. They range from a 24” x 12” working area to much larger (although anything too big would be overkill for just engraving dog tags). – These guys have specialized laser engravers for reasonable prices. They have a good selection of engraving machines that will be able to etch things like signs and glass too, if you want something that will do a range of other things. – also has a good selection of dog tag engraving machines. They also have a used section as well.

dog tag engravings

Epilog – These guys are one of my favorites. They have an extensive range of machines including laser etching and engraving machines which would be perfect for dog tags. Check their selection out as it is pretty big.

Goscribe – These guys have one machine that is nice and small and does dog tags as well as pet tags. They also do global shipping and their single machine is less than $3000.

The GoScribe site is definitely worth a look, as this machine will be perfect for just engraving dog tags or other smaller tags.

Well there you have it, details on how to get a great engraving my top places to find dog tag engraving machines. Good luck and I hope you get that great engraving you have been looking for.

laser glass etching

So you are looking at getting a laser glass etching done? Well laser glass etching is a great way to extend your brand out there or personalize something like wine glasses or beer glasses.

Below is an info guide on all things laser etching for glass, to help you figure out what you want and what laser etching is all about, including what the best machines are and where to get one.

What is laser etching?

Laser etching involves marking a glass with a laser. With a laser, you can etch very lightly. Because of this, you will not be sandblasting and you can create some pretty cool and detailed etchings onto a glass.

There is no masking involved and a lot of machines turn the glass for the laser, so everything is nice and easy and most importantly, even.

The most common laser type is the Co2 laser used for laser etching in glass.

What can be laser engraved?

Anything with glass can pretty much be engraved. Certain compound shapes may not be, but if it is symmetrical along one axis, for example a cup. Some machines have a rotary attachment that will allow you to laser etch glasses, beer mugs, cups, wine bottles, plaques and glass ornaments.

Laser etching is a great alternative to other methods such as sand blasting your glass.

What is the best laser glass etching machine for glass?

laser glass engraving

I can’t really recommend a specific model, as it really is up to your design and manufacturing specifications to choose which one will best suit your needs. I do however recommend checking out Epilog.

Epilog – Epilog has been around for a while and are based in the U.S. They have a good selection of glass laser etching machines for glass at prices that start under the $10,000 USD mark. These guys are definitely worth checking out.

RMI Laser – These guys are worth checking out too and are also based in the U.S. They have different types of laser etching machines including a multi-purpose laser marker.

Trotec – Another company based in the U.S. that is also worth checking out. They have three enclosed machines that you could possibly consider.

Universal Laser Systems – They have 12 laser engraving machines to choose from. These are enclosed systems. This is a great start to see what is available out there, then you can drill down and pick the best machine that suits your needs for laser etching on glass.

How to laser etch glass?

1. First of all, you will need to get set up with a laser etching machine. The most common is the Co2 laser. You will need some sort of rotary attachment to turn circular objects if you need to etch something cylindrical in shape.

2. Make sure you have the design sorted and exported to a cam/cnc program. The machine will then be able to run virtual runs to see if it can do the glass etching laser job properly without etching other areas of the glass on mistake.

Once this is done, it is time to etch the actual glass itself. I always double check to make sure all the cad files are perfect and that there are no errors.

3. Secure the glass object and if needed, use laser glass etching equipment to dissipate heat to prevent cracks etc.

4. Etch away. Remember that some glass can be different, such as high end crystal. This may mean you need to adjust the Co2 temperature accordingly when laser etching glass of different types.

3d laser glass etching

laser glass etching

Getting a great 3d glass laser etching is actually very easy. Actually the laser stays still, while the work piece is rotated around the laser. This makes 3d laser etching glass a lot easier. You can get a good rotary attachment that will rotate your work piece accordingly.

Be sure to check out the above brands as well as the above tips to help you choose the right glass laser etching machine. It pays to always test first, before proceeding with etching a whole batch, which can be a costly mistake if done wrong.

There are many different mini milling machine models out there. From regular types of mini milling machine to specialised cnc mini milling machine models, there is a lot out there to choose from.

Below I will talk about what the best types of mni milling machines are, where you can get them, and also how to go about getting a great project done outsourcing instead of buying a machine.

What is a mini milling machine?

A mini milling machine is a standard milling machine but a lot smaller. A mini milling machine is small enough to fit onto a desktop and because of this, can be stowed away very easily. It can be used for precision milling and milling of things such as handles and grips.

The down side to mini milling machines is that they cannot mill larger things and they tend to vibrate a lot more than heavier, industrial sized machines. It’s a give and take situation.

What are the best mini milling machines?

Grizzly – Grizzly has been around a while and provide some top quality mini milling machines. They have a huge selection and a solid customer base. Check out some of the models that I recommend below:

Shop Fox – I like Shop Fox because of their cool name, but they also have competitive mini milling machines. Here are the best of the lot:

Jet – Jet has a solid range of mills and lathes. They are a trusted brand and I would say buy a Jet product any day of the week. Check them out:

Proxxon – These guys have a solid range and have always been my wild card. I’ve had lots of satisfied people that have bought them from my recommendation. So give them a look to see if anything takes your fancy:

G Code

Alright so you want to learn G Code? Here’s a quick and dirty G code tutorial to get you started in G code and being able to talk the talk when it comes to the G code language.

Learning G code is actually pretty easy. With a bit of practice and this tutorial, you will be ‘the G Code’ pro in no time.

Learn the different planes

Depending on how many axis the machine has, you will have to figure out where the x,y,z axis are. You will also get a,b,c axis when it comes to machines that have more than 3 axis, such as 4 or 5 axis cnc machines.

The z axis is almost always the spindle that moves up and down, and the x and y will be the table directions.

Coordinates in G Code

We are going to be using inches in this G code tutorial. You can change this to metric pretty easily within whatever program you will be using. You can choose to omit the spaces if you want to, also do not add commas to the code.

X2 Y2 Z2

The above is a position at each axis. So in the above we have a position that is 2 inches from 0 in all axis.

For rotational axis found on a 4 or 5 axis machine, you use angles instead of dimensions. So rotating an A axis (4th axis) 45 degrees would be written as A45.

Your starting coordinates may affect your G-code coordinates. So if your cutting material is not lined up at X0 Y0 Z0, then you will need to adjust for this.

You can also use offsets to create duplicates of the work on a cnc machine, this is a little more advanced, but is something definitely worth learning later on.

G code dialects

Remember that there are different cam and software packages out there. Each manufacturer may have slightly different G-code, or a different dialect of G-code. It’s like the difference between American and British English, different words for different things and extra words for others.

Your job is to decide what the differences are and see what is supported with your cnc machine and what is not. This is to make sure the G-code you write will work smoothly on your chosen machine.

Using CAM programs to get the job done

There are a variety of different cam programs out there that will help you get the job done. I’ve always recommended starting with a program and then working backwards and learning the G-code later if you really want.

Some cam programs I would recommend are: Mastercam, BobCAD-CAM, and CAMworks for SolidWorks.

There are a ton of different programs out there, so I always like to try before I but. A lot of cad/cam programs usually come with a free trial. The programs themselves can be expensive for a single licence or seat, so give them a free trial before commiting to paying a lot of money up front.

G Code Simulator

NC Plot has a great simulator. NCPlot v2 is available for free for 15 days as a trial.

CNCsimulator has a good simulator worth checking out. They are currently working on the new CncSimulator Pro, which will be cool when it comes out.

Cnccookbook has a good G code editor called G-Wizard G-Code Editor which also has a free trial worth checking out.

G Code Generator / cnc code maker

Here are all the free/open source ones:

For 3d printing generators, check out SkeinForge, RepRap Host Software or SuperSkein

For milling generators, check out,, CL-Mill, GCAM, Gcodetools, PyCAM and Gcode enabled xfig.

File types for export to CNC

Some of the most common file types that are exported are STL, DXF and BMP. Other file types may include SVG, CMP, PLC, SOL, STS, STC, GTL and JPG.

If you are outsourcing, then you need to make sure your cnc operator will be able to accept at least one of the above files.

Always double check files by reopening them in another program or the same program after export. I like to provide extra files of different formats to make sure there is no delay.

Engraved tie bar

An engraved tie clip or an engraved tie bar is a great for standing out from the crowd.Cuff links have been become popular in terms of all the fancy new designs and styles, so you can now back that up with a cool tie bar engraving.

Here’s my personal guide on how and where to get a great engraving, as well as a little extra section including my favourite engraved tie clips worth purchasing.

Steps on how to get a tie clip engraved

1. Make sure you have a great design in mind or whatever you want written/engraved on your personalized tie clips. Having a clear idea of what you want here is key.

Think about the empty space around the design or words, as a cluttered look does not look too flash. Also, call ahead to make sure you have an engravable tie clip. Most materials can be engraved, so you should not have a problem here.

Engraved tie clip

2. Find a good engraver. There are a few ways to do this. One is to go to a key cutter/engraver that might have an engraving machine.

Another is to go to a proper cnc technician. A cnc technician is someone that uses a computer to control a machine that engraves your tie clip.

3. Check for past examples. Make sure to look at size, scale and most importantly, quality of finish for what you pay for.

Make sure you find something that suits your style, so you have a point of reference to come back to if you get a rather crappy looking product in the end.

4. Make sure you communicate clearly what you want and get a few quotes. Each place will vary, because some cnc machines are just more expensive to run than others.

Some may use a press to stamp letters on, while others might use a fancier laser engraving machine to get the job done.

5. Once you have communicated clearly what you want, then you can leave your tie bar there and then go to pick up and pay later.

Remember that a lot of laser engravers now use cad (computer aided design) software, so you should be able to preview your writing or design before it gets engraved if they have the time. This will give you a good sense of scale and look of the final design to be engraved.

6. Pick up and pin the new engraved tie clip and look flash. Maybe get a higher job position and a raise, because you look so much sharper. Too easy. Or not.

Here’s a few of some cool looking engraved tie clip designs that are worth purchasing:

Trying to find the best hand held engraver for your next engraving job? Below I will talk about what to look for in a hand held engraver. Different engravers are great for different tasks. I will also point you in the right direction for getting a good hand held engraver.

Top hand held metal engraver or wood engraver

This title would probably go to the Dremel 290-01 from Amazon, check it out below:

This is a great engraver that comes in at 7,200 strokes per minute. It is also pretty lightweight at only 12 ounces. Because of its accuracy and size, you should be able to engrave things small and legible, similar to writing with a pen and paper.

To expand its features, you could also add a keyless chuck and add rotary tool carving and engraving tool bits to this dremel. It is also super cheap and comes in at around just under $30 retail, but you can get it cheaper, at about $20 online through a site like Amazon.

Other hand held engravers worth a look

Dremel 100-N/7 – This dremel is good for engraving a variety of materials. You can do a ton of different things here such as cutting, sharpening, buffing, sanding and many other applications. The only down side is the single speed, so lacks variable speed. Worth a look, but is more of an all-rounder. For specific engraving, check out the Dremel 209-01 as mentioned before.

Dremel 4000-2/30 – This is an awesome dremel for people looking for the perfect multi use dremel. This kit pretty much does it all. Of course, you will have to pay more for it, but it also has variable speed and a lot of power behind it. This one comes highly recommended. This has variable speeds between 5-35,000 rpm which is great.

Dremel 8000-03 cordless – This bad boy is a great cordless dremel. This dremel comes with a wide range of tool fittings and a lithium Ion cordless battery. This dremel is a great choice for someone who needs a dremel that lacks a cord.

Proxxon 38481 IB/E – This professional rotary tool from Proxxon comes with great reviews. This dremel has variable speed from 5-20,000 rpm and comes with a 34-piece accessory set. The great thing about this dremel is that it is quiet and has minimal virabtion, even at maximum speeds.

Top hand held laser engraver

There really are no options out there for a hand held laser engraver. Your best bet would be to go with a smaller laser engraving machine that you can set up on a bench or on your desktop. I recommend RMI Laser for this, as they have small multi-purpose laser markers.

Also, check out our guide on laser engravers for more info.

I wish you all the best in finding the perfect hand held engraver for your engraving needs. Good luck!

cnc lathe machine large

Lathes have gotten a lot more sophisticated these days. The best cnc lathe machine options out there are the ones that fulfil your design and manufacturing goals. Below is a guide on how to choose the best cnc lathe machine for your goals

What is a cnc lathe machine?

A cnc lathe machine is a lathe that uses a cnc (computer numerically controlled) system to control the lathe. So the lathe is pretty much run by a computer.

All you need to do is create your project in 3d using a cad (computer aided design) program. Then export that file and import it into a cam (computer aided manufacturing) program. This will then translate it into a ‘language’ that the machine will recognize and will do the rest for you on the cnc machine lathe.

Best Lathe cnc machine

Sherline mini lathe

Mini lathes – Definitely go with Sherline. These guys are based in the U.S. and have been around since way before I was even born. Their mini cnc lathes come in a full package, so include the lathes, chucks, accessories and computer. This is a great choice for someone who wants to get all the parts all together with the least amount of hassle.

Check out this page from Sherline for their range of different types of mini cnc lathe machine. The website has a good faq that will allow you to see what their mini lathes for cnc can or can not do. For example, they woon’t cut threads without other accessories.

Regular sized lathes – Check out CNC Masters here.  They have a few solid types of cnc turning lathe machine that you can choose from. They have pretty reasonable priced machines that start at under $10,000 USD. Their CNC 1340 Turning Center lathe can be used as both a cnc lathe milling machine as well as a manual lathe, so you do not need to cnc program for shorter runs.

Cnc lathe machine operator and Cnc lathe machine programming

Cnc operator jobs are becoming more and more in high demand and the standard cnc operator salary has gone up due to the niche. If you have experience with cad/cam and cnc programming, then you could earn between $30-70,000 USD a year from the job postings that I have seen. Check out our cnc operator salary guide.

Cnc lathe machine parts

cnc machine lathe

For standard lathes and lathe parts, check out some of the top brands such as Jet, Shop Fox or Grizzly.

For more standardized cnc parts, I would recommend going to the manufacturer whose machine that you have. Parts may include spindles, tool holders and cutters, but this all depends on the machine and brand that you have.

Cnc vertical lathe machine

Youji, Femco and KaastYouji is based in China has a massive range of cnc vertical lathe machines that you could consider. Obviously, if you are in the U.S., then this may be a little hard. I would recommend for you readers out in the U.S. to check out Femco as well as Kaast which both have a couple of larger scale cnc vertical lathes that you can look at as a good starting point.

The above three cnc lathe machine manufacturer directions are a good way to see what is out there. Obviously, with larger scale machines, the price is going to go up. This may mean outsourcing certain jobs if you do not need the machine much.

Save on cnc lathe machine prices by buying a used cnc machine

cnc lathe machine

Buying a used cnc lathe machine is a great option to save some money. You may be able to pick up an older lathe and retrofit it, or you may be able to buy an older cnc wood lathe machine that will help you achieve the same goals as a new one.

Obviously things like wear and tear as well as the lack of a warranty are some of the downsides. But if you are diy person, these challenges alongside online help forums should be able to help you out. The cnc community is a very helpful group online, especially the members on or the popular machinist forum. Good luck!
